Royce Bowden received his Ph.D. (Industrial Engineering) in 1992 and joined the industrial and systems engineering faculty at Mississippi State University. Prior to joining Mississippi State, Dr. Bowden worked in manufacturing engineering positions with Texas Instruments (Dallas, TX) and Martin Marietta Aerospace (New Orleans, LA).
His research on developing and integrating modern optimization and artificial intelligence techniques with discrete-event simulation to solve complex optimization problems was adopted by a leading software company in 1996. Virtually all major discrete event software providers now include similar optimizers with their products. Dr. Bowden’s research has been funded by organizations including the National Science Foundation, United States Department of Transportation, United States Department of Agriculture, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Whirlpool Corporation. Dr. Bowden is the director of the MSU component of the National Center for Intermodal Transportation, a partnership between MSU and the University of Denver.
Professor Bowden is author (or coauthor) of numerous research papers and coauthor of two simulation books. McGraw-Hill published the second edition of his book Simulation Using ProModel in 2004. Dr. Bowden has delivered numerous invited presentations and workshops around the nation and serves as an associate editor for the International Journal of Modeling and Simulation. |
